Happy First Day of Fall!
The first day of fall is always filled with excitement. We are heading into the holiday season and better weather. My family has a lot of little traditions around the holidays, and there is always an extra layer nostalgia, warmth, and delight in the air.
This week I have 3 simple things on my agenda to kick off the season:
Decorating. The fall items go up right away. Halloween will wait until October 1st. I don’t go overboard here because I simply don’t have the storage space for a bunch of decor. But it also helps keep this simple and easier to put away when the season is over as well.
Baking. I used to bake a loaf of pumpkin bread on the first day of fall. Then I had three kids and baking was something I did around Halloween when I would pick up a box of funfetti mix and make cupcakes with the kids. Which was a wonderful little accidental tradition. But the kids are older now and all at school, so I think fall baking will be coming back. The first recipe I’ll be attempting this year is Pumpkin Scones!
Movie. I love love love kicking off fall with You’ve Got Mail. There is something about that intro with The Cranberries and the line “Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charms.” that gets me every time!
Once my season is properly set up, I will give more love back to my garden. Which was horribly neglected, per usual, this summer. Though I will say I was a little better this year than I used to be!
I hope you have a lovely fall. And that you find little traditions of your own that bring you feelings of comfort, connectedness, and delight.
